The 3 Actions Leaders Should Take Today

We all know one thing for sure: oftentimes the very action we need to take to arrive at the results we hope is the action we most often ignore.

Or rebel from.

Or simply despise.

It's January. Which means gyms are full and diet subscriptions are at their height and notebooks are being filled with hopes and dreams of a better life.

I once had a gym franchise owner tell me- 'we do the vast majority of our business and revenue from January through April. After that, the revenue remains but the attendance drops drastically.'

It's no secret as to why the commercials on TV and ads on the internet are health centric toward the end of a year. Marketing experts are VERY smart people. And they know how to create campaigns that capitalize on our desires.

And desires are good. But to be effective they must be followed with simple habits that will lead us to our stated desire.

For your health- it's really simple: eat foods that fuel the health of your body and move your body daily. Take those two simple actions daily and your health will improve.

I find this same approach applies to leadership. Yes- your diet and leadership have a lot in common.

Leadership is simple really: help people be their best self. That's it!

But how do we take part in this truly simple mission on a daily basis?

Here are 3 easy actions you can take daily that will bring about immeasurable results:

1- Treat people with kindness.
Don't worry about being right or wrong or making sure everyone understands your opinion on the matter. Put others before yourself and treat everyone around you with sincere kindness. This is the quickest way possible to empower those around you.

2- Say thank you.
You can't say it enough. People don't get tired of it. A sincere thank you can turns someones dark day to light and turn every frown to a smile. Say thank you. Mean it. And say it again.

3- Let go.
Possible the gravest mistake I see leaders make on a daily basis is they think they must retain control of every situation. From repairing the equipment because they hold all the knowledge to putting out all of the fires to being the only one in the room making the final decision.

Get over yourself. You aren't the smartest person in the room, you don't have all the answers and if you have surrounded yourself with people who have a beating heart- odds are someone in that room has a much better idea than you.

Make it your job to let go and let those around you lead the way.

My dad always told me that humans live up to the standards and expectations we set- if you think you have all of the answers then you leave no room for anyone else to share their ideas. Make it your goal to set a standard that everyone shares their idea and has the opportunity to put that idea into practice.

Let go.

Put these 3 simple actions into practice and watch your team, family or circle thrive!
